In-FACT – “Integration Frequencies of Actual
Classroom Technology”
Do you know
which technologies your teachers and students are actually using
and how often they are using them?
How It
Works
In-FACT is a
web-based, self-assessment of the integration of instructional
technology. The intuitive interface allows faculty
members and students to quickly and conveniently report the
integration of various technologies into each of their courses.
In-FACT not only measures what technology items are being used,
but also modalities and frequencies of usage.
Through the
intuitive use of checkboxes arranged in a grid, the participants
can quickly identify which technologies are being used and in
what ways. This format allows the instrument to be quickly
completed thus resulting in higher response rates. The
average time to complete the assessment is less than five
minutes per course.

Benefits
To You
Tremendous
expansion in the access to technology in America’s educational
institutions has occurred over the past decade. Millions
of dollars and thousands of hours have been invested in the
curricular integration of technology. But In-FACT, most
institutions are not measuring the levels of usage of this
investment. In-FACT, in many instances the expensive
equipment and hours of training are not being infused into the
curriculum at all. When asked if their technology is being
utilized many educational leaders reply, “I think so.”
But continued budget requests based on “I think so” usually
are not funded. If this is the case in your institution,
you need authentic, quantifiable data to document your usage of
technology. You need In-FACT.
The data
resulting from this assessment is designed to guide your
data-driven decision process for future technology purchases and
training. Using the data gathered through In-FACT, a
Technology Integration Index will be calculated for each user.
This index is a numerical representation of the level of
technology integration. This index can be tracked over
time to show levels of development.
SPECIAL
NOTE FOR USERS IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA:
Alabama
IMPACT: Phase II Alabama Technology Plan for K-12 Education
calls for Alabama schools to move toward the next step -
integrating technology into the classroom to enhance learning.
The IMPACT document requires the “evaluation of effective
technology use in the classroom” (pg 4).
The items in In-FACT are
based on the IMPACT standards. Usage of In-FACT greatly
simplifies your IMPACT reporting.

OTHER
FEATURES
Reporting
– Each participant receives an individualized report
indicating their personal level of technology integration.
This report compares their results to others in their defined
group. Administrators receive a summative report detailing
overall usage as well as individual item and user utilization.
Solutions
– Observations and recommendations for instructional resources
are included in the report. If the data indicates that the
faculty member needs specific technology training, that will be
suggested. Links to potential solutions and resources are
provided. If the data suggests that instructional design
assistance is needed links to technology infusion resources are
provided as well.
Consulting
– If the data shows that In-FACT your institution needs
strategic planning in its infusion of technology into the
curriculum, professional consulting solutions will be suggested.
Ease of
Interpretation – The results are not presented in confusing
columns of numbers and figures, but in easy to interpret charts
and graphs (as seen below.) You will receive colorful
charts indicating which technology items are not being utilized,
which items are being integrated, and the ways in which the
items are being used.
